What makes ecancer different?

ecancer is an Open Access journal that does not charge to publish or subscribe. It is the brain child of Prof Umberto Veronesi (who also founded ECCO insert link amongst other leading European Cancer Organisations).

Prof Veronesi is committed to a vision of the future where all scientific information is accessible across boundaries, quickly and without charge.

ecancer is a not for profit journal, this means no publishing house is profiting from your publication - science that is often funded by charities and public money. Any funds that are generated by sponsorship over and above running costs will be given back to the supporting charities.

ecancer is building a community of oncology professionals to discuss, share and develop new research and ideas. This is your community and we want to know what you think. If you have any ideas, improvements or questions please email Jon at jonathan@ecancermedicalscience.com

What is Open Access (OA)?

ecancer is an open access (OA) journal. OA is open access, predominantly online, to material that is free for all users to read and use. Unlike other Open Access journals ecancer does not charge to publish research and has no subscription charges.

How many people read ecancer?

Over 20,000 people a month visit the ecancer site to read, watch and comment on the content.

Can I reprint and redistribute ecancer content?

All content published on ecancer, such as articles, blogs, images and videos, is freely available for you to read, download, copy, distribute and use as long as the authors and ecancer are cited.

All content on ecancer is published by Creative Commons licence, and for any reuse or redistribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. The best way to do this is with a link to this web page Creative Commons Licence 3.0 ND

How do I register?

To register with ecancermedicalscience you must enter a valid email address and choose your own password, and fill in a few basic details. Once you have done this, you will be sent a confirmation email. Once you have confirmed your registration, you will have access to all content.

ecancer respects your privacy and will not pass your details on to any third parties.

If you have forgotten your password, click here. Enter your email address that is registered with our website and your password will then be sent to that email address.

Why should I register?

To become part of the ecancer community and to gain full access to all the articles we publish. You will also be able to access exclusive content before other visitors.

All registrants will also receive a monthly ecancer e-newsletter with up to the minute news and video. You can unsubscribe to the newsletter at any time by clicking the link at the bottom the newsletter.

As we never pass on your details to anyone else we promise you will only ever receive ecancer information.

How is ecancer funded?

ecancer does not charge authors for publishing articles and other content. The journal, founded by the European Institute of Oncology, is funded by charities and industry sponsors. The Umberto Veronesi Foundation, the European Institute of Oncology Foundation and Swiss Bridge are the key founding charities of the journal. Content sponsored by industry is clearly marked as such, and all content is peer-reviewed by an independent scientific editorial board.

What is a DOI?

DOIs (Digital Object Identifier) enable citation or research that is published online before in print. They are markers assigned to editorial content to provide a unique and persistent identifier for that item. The DOI system is administered the International DOI Foundation and Crossref maintains a lookup system, making the DOI a reference standard and enabling cross-publisher linking. All ecancer articles are given a DOI.

What is the ecancer blog?

The ecancer blog is a collaborative space for members of ecancer to post interesting news, opinions, descriptions of congresses, or other material such as photographs and images.

How do I submit a blog?

We encourage you to post blogs that you think would be interesting to the oncology community. If you have something you want your peers to read contact us and we will authorise your account. Once we have adjusted your member settings you can post as much as you like.

If you would like blog access or would prefer us to post for you simply send ecancer an email, at info@ecancermedicalscience.com, with your name and organisation.

To submit your blog, log in, select 'Post to ecancer blog' from the menu bar and fill in the text boxes. When you are finished, click 'Submit Blog Post', and your blog will be posted.

ecancer reserves the right to remove material deemed inappropriate by the ecancer team.

How do I comment against a blog?

There is no need to register to post a comment against a blog. Write your comment , type in the verification code, which appears under the comment box, and click on the 'Post comment' button. Your comment will appear instantly.

How do I start a forum thread and comment?

To make a comment against a forum post or to start a new topic, register to ecancermedicalscience, or if already a member simply login, and start commenting.

How do I follow ecancer on Twitter?

You can find out the latest updates on ecancer by following us on Twitter. To follow ecancer, click on the Twitter logo, which is to be found on all ecancer pages.

Image bank

What is the ecancer image bank?

ecancer is hosting cancer images for the cancer community to use and distribute free of charge. Please help develop this invaluable resource by adding your images to the image bank.

How do I upload images?

To upload images to the ecancer image library, you must first be a registered user of ecancermedicalscience. Once registered, login to your account and select 'Upload to image library' from the menu bar and then follow the instructions. If you experience any difficulties whilst uploading your images, contact info@ecancermedicalscience.com.

Why do I want to watermark my image?

You have the option to watermark your images. A watermark is a way of 'stamping' your image with information. You can watermark your image with your name or that of your institute. When the image is downloaded and used on other materials the watermark will remain.

How do I submit an event to the conference calendar?

The ecancer conference calendar is taken from the European CanCer Organisation (ECCO) events calendar feed. To submit an event to this calendar, fill in this online submission form.
